Poor Rachel

September was not an easy month for our family! The most difficult thing being how sick Rachel became. We had just moved to Arizona and she had some terrible diapers. She was having horrible diarrhea. It was so disturbing one night so I called our insurance help line to see what we could do for little Rach. They asked a lot of questions and ended up saying to keep her hydrated and if there was any mucous in her stool to take her to the urgent care. I hung up the phone, changed her diaper and there was the mucous. We went to the urgent care. The doctor their told me to start taking samples, turn them in to the lab and to watch for vomiting or a fever. We went home started collecting samples and that night she spikes a fever and vomits. I call the nurse line and they tell me to go to the ER. We go to the ER (my very least favorite place) and they tell me mucous in the stool, a fever and vomitting aren't worrisome but if there is blood to come back to the ER. We go home and the next day there is blood in Rachel's diaper. I made an appointment with a great pediatrician Aunt Lisa referred us to. Dr Horner saw us and ordered samples to be tested stat. I had filled 10 tubes of poop at this point and thought Rachel would never have a normal diaper again. This had been going on for WEEKS! Dr Horner got results back before the urgent care and the emergency room. Dr Horner is now one of my most favorite people on the planet, seriously! She asked so many questions and made several calls to us at home. She told us that Rachel had salmonella and must of contracted it from contaminated food. We had been eating because of our move and think that must be what it was from. Dr Horner ordered blood tests for Rachel to make sure it hadn't moved into her bones or organs because it can become quite serious. We were relieved to find out it hadn't and were so grateful for our doctors competence and thoroughness! Just before this happened Rachel had started to ask to potty on the toilet and was almost out of diapers! Poor thing!
